Using the level 80 boost gives you a set of exotic gear, yes, but it will be bound to the character you used the boost on. On the other hand, you can use it on a character that has already reached max level, like your thief. If you don't want to use the boost as a way to bypass levelling another character, this might be the easiest way for you
As someone said previously, you might get overwhelmed with the amount of skills, and builds. Take your time and develop your own playstyle. You can always start a new character and use the insta level 80 on it. One thing you can do is create characters and use the L80 Boost to try them out in The Silverwastes.

And I used the boost item to get lvl 80, soo I tried to start the Heart of Thorns or Path of Fire journey, but I'm dying to much and having a low dps. Get to learn the game from the in-game hints given to you through leveling normally. Once you're comfortable with how the game controls and how combat works, go ahead and pop it on a toon you like. You can trial the level 80 toon before you consume the boost. 2) So there are two systems in play here. Personal Story and Mastery.
If you use the Level-80 Boost to advance your character to max level, you won’t get the level-up rewards you would have earned from normal leveling. That said, the package of rewards from consuming the boost is much more valuable than the normal level-up rewards.
